Dragonboating - Not an Olympic Sport?

25 May 2008 - As the Olympic Torch began its journey around the world, the Hong Kong Dragon Boat Association flag was seen on the boat carrying Hong Kong swimmer Sze Hang-Yu. The IDBF was pleased to see that this traditional Chinese sport, which came to the West via Hong Kong, was so visibly present in connection with the Olympic Games.

Criticism of Chinese politics aside, the EDBF would like to wish the individual athletes who will take part in the upcoming Olympic Games success in their endeavors and congratulations to the HKDBA who scored this PR coup for the dragon boat sport.

The European Dragon Boat Federation is a Member of the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) and recognised by the IDBF as the specific Governing Body for Dragon Boating in Europe.
The IDBF is the world governing authority for Dragon Boat Sport and the Member International Federation of SportAccord (the General Association of International Sports Associations) specifically for Dragon Boating. SportAccord is an International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognised sports association.
The IDBF is also an International Federation recognised by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and is a Founder Member of the Association of International Paddle Sports Federation (AIPSF).
