Spain joins EDBF & IDBF

27 january 2008 - In Spain, seventeen (17) clubs have formally constituted the Association of Spanish Dragon Boats (AEDB) following the GAISF decision to admit IDBF into Membership. The Spanish Canoe Federation accepted the GAISF view that dragon boating is not canoeing and told those canoe clubs interested in dragon boating to form an independent DBA. This they did by forming the AEDB and at its first Extraordinary Assembly, on 26 September 2007, the AEDB elected its first President and Officials and joined the IDBF and EDBF.

The European Dragon Boat Federation is a Member of the International Dragon Boat Federation (IDBF) and recognised by the IDBF as the specific Governing Body for Dragon Boating in Europe.
The IDBF is the world governing authority for Dragon Boat Sport and the Member International Federation of SportAccord (the General Association of International Sports Associations) specifically for Dragon Boating. SportAccord is an International Olympic Committee (IOC) recognised sports association.
The IDBF is also an International Federation recognised by the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) and the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and is a Founder Member of the Association of International Paddle Sports Federation (AIPSF).
