According to Mattias: "During the preparations for the European Championship 2012 in Nottingham we came on the idea for this calendar and therefore the "Drachenbootmänner" was born. Along with trying to find sponsors for the team, we have started to sell the calendar produced by ourselves. After our sporting success in Nottingham and the coronation with the world championship title in 1000 m in Szeged 2013, we have thought we try it once more with a calendar".

Curious if there are any Portuguese dragon boat teams I may be able to get in touch with. I'm visiting Lisbon in about a week and i'd love to connect with an international team--it would be interesting to paddle/train with another crew if the opportunity was there. Any help would be awesome! Thanks :)

Quite a few people have been wondering why there is no 2000m premier race for the small boats at the 16th ECCC. Historically within EDBF, the small boats are supposed to be for developing categories and countries/clubs with too few paddlers to field a large boat. In 2011 the EDBF membership voted to confirm the large boats as the main racing category of boat, citing speed, spectacle and tradition. On a practical basis, there is just no room in the three day racing program of the Club Crew Championships to also run small boat racing.

Rene Schilly Schilloks That's bad, the IDBF had started in Ravenna with much more teams without any problems. The smaller teams work as hard as the big ones and have to pay the same price for travel, accommodation and the entry fee, but at least they are not allowed to start at the 2000m competition. A lot of allies think is not fair.

European Dragon Boat Federation Rene, you have a good point about the costs, but the event stretched over more days. We simply do not have the time in the shorter 3-day European Club Crew.

2000m at ECCC will not race in smallboat? Ravenna what to enormous popularity with and acceptance of this distance! Why not at least in the premier class ???

Just doing a bit of a Wikipedia and Google Maps search on Divonne-les-Bains, possible 16th ECCC championship site. Quite interesting - near the Jura National Park so lots of beautiful nature, near Geneva so good air links, was established as a spa so probably plenty of relaxation and wellness opportunities... so for club crews looking to tack some vacation time onto to their racing weekend, it looks quite inviting.

Right now we are awaiting finalization of some details before confirming the location and dates but to give you a sneak-preview we are looking at: 1. Divonne-les-Bains on the French-Swiss border 2. Ravenna, the location of the recent IDBF WCCC 3. Lignano, Italy in conjunction with the CSIT World Sports Games Watch this space!
