EDBF Annual General Assembly will be held 21-23 November 2014

30 July 2014 - The EDBF Annual General Assembly (AGA) will be held 21-23 November 2014. Meetings will take place from Friday afternoon through Monday morning. We are very lucky in that a number of our members are interested in hosting the meeting: Spain (Murcia), Hungary (Budapest) and Estonia (Talinn). Once the EDBF Board has detailed proposals back from potential hosts we will decide on the location (considering ease of access from throughout Europe, value for money and scouting future championship locations). Please hold the dates free for this important meeting. If your official National representative cannot attend this meeting, please send someone who can represent your country at the meeting.

The EDBF European Club Crew Championships in 2015 will be held in Budapest, Hungary (pending final approval at the AGA in November). The date will be announced once the organizer has had a chance to coordinate dates so they don't clash with the IDBF World Nations Championships in Welland, Canada. On behalf of the Hungarian Dragon Boat Federation, who will be organizing the ECCC, they are looking forward to welcoming club crews to back to Budapest for some great racing in a magnificent city.

EDBF AGA will be held 21-23 November 2014. Three locations are interested in hosting the AGA: Murcia, Spain; Talinn, Estonia and Budapest, Hungary. Tell your country representative to mark their calendars and give your feedback on how the EDBF should address the following issues: - proposal to raise the EDBF fee from 10 to 15 euro per paddler (goes to support the costs of running the organization and helping subsidize race official and board members travel) - call for proposal to fund EDBF championships (how can we raise money to help make better championships without excessively burdening paddlers?) - will lowering the regatta fee for juniors increase the number of junior crews attending championships (or is that an insignificant cost compared to the costs of traveling and hotels at championships/) - adding new classes just for juniors (100m races, relay races - or do juniors want to race the official distances 200m, 500m, 2k) - proposal to have U-18s only race in the Olympic class (small) boats (will this stimulate more junior crews to participate since they won't have to find funding for such a large crew, will it stimulate or damage the eventual crossover from a small to a standard boat? Please ask your junior crew managers, trainers and paddlers what they think!) - call for proposals to increase spectator attendance at ENC & ECCs - call for nominations for Chairman (currently Alan van Caubergh, NL), 2nd vice chairman (vacant), representative to the Board (currently Su Menzies, GB), governing members (3 needed, currently Hungary, Czech Republic, Russia) Do you have any other ideas that the EDBF should consider and that should be voted on at the EDBF AGA? This is the most important meeting of the year since it is the meeting where our members' have say in the most important decisions the EDBF takes - on behalf of paddlers. Please send your suggestions to the board of your national dragon boat association so they can bring those into the meeting in November. You can also send your ideas to the EDBF via the contact link or the secretary general on the EDBF website at www.edbf.org. We really want to hear from you!

When I see 200m I always think that the logic behind start list is not proper. It benefits weaker teams and most of all it benefits the team that did not start last time. The easy solution is to start every two years on 10 and 20 and then you always no 1 on the start list with the clear water at the front of the boat. IMO it should be done other way - the champion should start first. There would be a rare situation when one boat runs very close to the other so the condition will be more less the same for all boats. Other sports allow champions to be favoured - tennis, futbol, swimming etc. It worth to reconsider this idea once again by the EDBF/IDBF decision makers.

Low entries this year calling for creative solutions in scheduling for exciting racing. Team leaders worried that they'll be competing across categories, but teams will be awarded the right medals for their racing class.
